quirk infodrawbacks

The user is able to communicate with ghosts and turn through walls and floors (similarly to Mirio). Following the ability to go through walls, they can also turn themself invisible. The user is able to communicate with ghosts that are within a 10 foot radius of them no matter how long ago the ghost passed away. The user is able to turn their whole body invisible, or just a certain limb. They can only stay invisible for 5 minutes maximum. After their quirk awakening, they gain the ability to levitate. Their levitation is limited to 7 inches/17 centimeters off the ground.

When it comes to being able to pass through walls, it is very difficult to control. The user can easily fall through the bed or the floor if their quirk randomly activates while they are sleeping. The more of their body that they have invisible, the harder it is to STAY invisible. It is the strongest at first, but they gradually get easier to see. When hearing spirits, they hear the ghosts speaking all the time. If there is an area with ghosts, they will hear it. There is no way of turning this off.

Shén is a very loud and excitable young man. He almost always has a mischievous smile plastered across his face and that, even during incredibly serious situations, never fades. He is never quiet about his opinions and is so passionate about the way he feels that he is willing to quite literally shout it from the rooftops with no embarrassment. He can be seen as quite airheaded, but only because he tries to focus as little on being logical as possible. This often gets him in trouble, considering how his job does require things to be taken quite seriously. Aside from emotions he has deemed as ‘negative’, he is always very easy to read. He is a kind person at heart.

He would much rather embarrass himself than watch someone else suffer from stress or sadness. While it might not be very clear, his positivity is more for others than it is himself. His positivity can seem almost false or overwhelming at some points, simply because of how hard he tends to push it. Since Shén was a big provider and pillar of comfort for his siblings when he was younger, he tends to cling to others in a rather childish manner. He chases the feeling of praise and support, even if he has to do strange things for this to be received. He yearns to be liked, which is why he is so overwhelmingly confident. His confidence started off as being false, but he seems to have convinced himself that he genuinely feels this way. He refers to himself as ‘amazing’ quite often.

BACKSTORY. WARNING FOR DEATH MENTIONS, PROCEED WITH CAUTION.

Shén was born into a middle class family to a freshly married couple. His parents had been dating for quite a while but when his mother became pregnant, they felt pressured by her family to get married because of how traditional their values and beliefs were. Shén’s parents had no intentions of getting married prior to having him. Growing up, Shén didn’t have many friends. Not because he was quiet, but because he had always been viewed as strange. His quirk developed early and this resulted in him constantly hearing the voices of ghosts. Shén always struggled with knowing the difference between a living person speaking to him and a ghost, so most people assumed there was something wrong with him. He had been tested multiple times, just to see if there was any explanation for this weird behaviour, only for it to be brushed away by doctors as an aspect of his quirk.Classmates often teased Shén for being a freak and talking to people who didn’t seem to be there. Even during this, he tried his hardest to make friends. He began ignoring the voices of ghosts, which also made him ignore the voices of the living. He was mocked for this as well. Classmates and even adults constantly questioned if there was something wrong with his ears, but they didn’t realise this was just him trying to be considered normal. At home, the responsibility of watching his younger siblings fell on him because of how much his parents worked. His mother worked night shifts while his father worked during the day, often picking up overtime to support their larger family. Shén would occasionally have to miss school just so his mother would have the opportunity to sleep peacefully, which was something he didn’t seem to mind much.If he had to choose, Shén much preferred watching a crying baby over getting mocked and pushed around by the kids his own age. By the time Shén was 12, his father was killed in a car accident on the way home from work one night. He tasked himself with comforting his siblings and taking care of his mother, which ended with him never really getting to cope with his father’s death personally. He handled housework and cooking. He handled childcare and, even after finding out his mom had before pregnant again shortly before his dad’s death, he helped her during this as well.

This was when his positivity and hyper demeanour really came into place. He was determined to do anything that he could to bring smiles to his family’s faces. He hated the sight of his siblings crying, or his mother stressed out and hunched over bills at the kitchen table. It made him feel guilty, like he should do more to help ease their pains.
Shén practically had been a parent for multiple years now, and it had only become more intense when his mother picked up a second job. Because of the amount of kids and how much she worked, things like Shén’s birthday and academic achievements were pushed to the side. He acknowledged that it couldn’t really be helped. He acknowledged that, as the oldest, he would have to deal with disappointment whether he liked it or not.
After turning 14, Shén started his own small company that involved speaking to the spirits that he had blocked out for so long. The money he gained was all for his mother’s sake. He wanted to help support her because he knew that working so much and still having kids to take care of must be stressful. He would occasionally keep some pocket money for himself, which could just be for buying himself a small snack like some candy from the convenience store. He didn’t expect much growing up, even if he had the ability to make the money himself.Once he got to high school, Shén’s false confidence and positivity slowly grew more true. He had put on this face for his family, but now people seemed to genuinely look up to him because of his powerful quirk. Shén was still often asked to stay home for his sibling’s sake, even if his mom had started dating again and her boyfriend was fully capable of helping out. But now that people actually liked him, he didn’t see staying home as ‘an escape’ like he used to.Shén was given the opportunity to train under Mirko sometime later during his second year of high school. He felt special. He felt happy because his talents had never been acknowledged like this before, not by his parents or anyone else around him. After graduating, he practically threw himself into hero work. While he is still asked to watch his siblings, it is much less intense because of how obviously busy he is.

RUMI USAGIYAMA | MIRKO| MENTOR.

he looks up to her like crazy, plain and simple. shen finds mirko to be incredible. he thinks she's so strong and almost yearns to be that when he's older. shen views her almost as the older sister he never had, but don't tell her he said that ! her being his height but so admirable makes him feel less insecure.

INASA YOARASHI | GALE FORCE.

inasa is simply shen's underclassman ! they would talk occasionally when shen popped into school after graduating, but they don't become close until after inasa has graduated and become a pro himself. loud buddies, that's what they are !!!!
